AMA/AAFP Equivalency – American Academy of Family Physicians This live activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 12 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to the AMA PRA category 1 credit toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada – Mainpro-M1 The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is the accrediting body for family medicine continuing medical education (CME) in the United States of America.

CFPC members who complete any live CME/CPD program accredited by the AAFP for Prescribed credit can claim the equivalent number of Mainpro-M1 credits.

Canadian Healthcare professionals in other specialties need to verify with their licensing board the reciprocal credit agreement with the AAFP.

American Osteopathic Association – AOA CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.
American Academy of Physician Assistants – AAPA AAPA accepts Category 1 CME approval from the AAFP.
American Association of Nurse Practitioners – AANP AAFP Prescribed Credits are accepted by the AANP.
American Nurses Credentialing Center – ANCC According to the ANCC, the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP meet the ANCC-accredited CNE criteria.

Tuition Discount

Receive a $50 discount if you are a past MCE Conferences attendee, or for two or more healthcare professionals attending together. Receive a $100 discount if you are a past conference attendee AND if you are registering for the conference with another healthcare professional.

Tuition Cancellation Policy without Protection:

• Cancellation made within 7 days of registration: The full tuition fee will be refunded minus a 10% processing fee for all credit card transactions. This cancellation policy is not applicable to registrations made 21 days before the conference date.

• Cancellation made up and until 15 days before the conference date: Full tuition fee minus a 10% processing charge will be applied towards a future MCE Conference.

• Cancellations made within 14 days before the conference date: No refunds or credits will be issued. The full tuition fee will be forfeited.


Tuition Cancellation Protection - $50 per tuition registration:

• Tuition cancellation protection: Allows attendees to cancel up to 15 days before the conference date and receive a full refund.

• Cancellations made within 14 days of the conference date: The full tuition amount will be applied towards a future MCE conference.

Overview
The Internal Medicine conference is designed to provide physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician assistants involved in Primary Care with evidence-based information on commonly encountered office dilemmas and suggest current approaches to clinical management. The conference will present and critically assess recent advances and key topics in Internal Medicine to enhance the knowledge and competence of Primary Care attendees.

Topics and Objectives

Sleep Disorders
Objectives: 1) Review evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders commonly encountered in the primary care setting: Insomnia, Obstructive sleep apnea, Restless leg syndrome, Nocturnal leg cramps

Management of Pigmented Lesions: A Primary Care Approach
Objectives: 1) Highlight evaluation and management of pigmented lesions. These include melanoma and seborrheic keratosis, etc. 2) Review basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer presentations 3) Review lesions that warrant special attention 4) Discuss when to biopsy 5) Review biopsy techniques 6) Describe how to fill out pathology paperwork 7) Review interpretation of pathology results for pigmented lesions

Tips for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Skin Conditions
Objectives: 1) Review presentations of common skin conditions: Rashes, Psoriasis, Acneiform conditions, and Facial/malar rashes 2) General approaches to choosing topical agents: review some oral agents such as topical steroids and steroid-sparing agents, anti-fungal therapies, psoriasis treatment options, and treatment for acneiform conditions

Common Musculoskeletal Conditions
Objectives: 1) Review evaluation and treatment of common musculoskeletal conditions encountered in the primary care setting 2) Discuss clinical presentations and differential diagnoses 3) Review evidence-based physical exam maneuvers 4) Review benefit of different diagnostic studies 5) Discuss benefits/risks of primary care office procedures for common musculoskeletal conditions 6) Discuss treatment options

Osteoporosis
Objectives: 1) Review screening recommendations and tools available to discuss screening 2) Discuss who should we treat 3) Review medication options, including target patient population, side effects, etc. 4) Discuss length of therapy 5) Review plans and tools to aid in follow up and long-term management

Female Sexual Dysfunction
Objectives: 1) Discuss the sexual response cycle 2) Review categories of female sexual dysfunction 3) Appreciate the bio-psycho-social influences 4) Discuss how to take an appropriate history 5) Review evaluation of women with sexual dysfunction 6) Discuss treatment options

Stroke Prevention
Objectives: 1) To understand the definition and burden of disease due to stroke 2) How to prevent strokes in primary care practice through the management of common risk factors such as hypertension, atrial fibrillation and carotid artery disease

Emerging Infectious Diseases
Objectives: 1) Learn about common zoonotic diseases that are impacting on ambulatory practice in North America including Zika virus and West Nile Virus

Updates in General Internal Medicine
Objectives: 1) Review 5 practice changing articles in the last year that include discussion of when to restart anticoagulation after upper gastrointestinal bleeds 2) When to recommend knee arthroscopy for meniscal tears 3) Total knee replacements and update on screening for AAA

Management of Common Infectious Diseases
Objectives: 1) To review the latest data on the risk factors for and the treatment of common infectious diseases such as c. difficile, diarrhea, pyelonephritis, cellulitis, seasonal and epidemic influenza

Hypertension
Objectives: 1) Understand the latest guidelines on screening, management, and treatment of hypertension including understanding how to apply the SPRINT trial

Practical EKG Review for Practicing Clinicians
Objectives: 1) Hands on practice and review of key EKG findings to help create a framework on how to approach EKG reading
