AMA/AAFP Equivalency – American Academy of Family Physicians This live activity is being reviewed for up to 12 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to the AMA PRA category 1 credit toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. Canadian Healthcare professionals in other specialties need to verify with their licensing board the reciprocal credit agreement with the AAFP.

American Osteopathic Association – AOA CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.
American Academy of Physician Assistants – AAPA AAPA accepts Category 1 CME approval from the AAFP.

Tuition Cancellation Policy without Protection:

• Cancellation made within 7 days of registration: The full tuition fee will be refunded minus a 10% processing fee for all credit card transactions. This cancellation policy is not applicable to registrations made 21 days before the conference date.

• Cancellation made up and until 15 days before the conference date: Full tuition fee minus a 10% processing charge will be applied towards a future MCE Conference.

• Cancellations made within 14 days before the conference date: No refunds or credits will be issued. The full tuition fee will be forfeited.


Tuition Cancellation Protection - $50 per tuition registration:

• Tuition cancellation protection: Allows attendees to cancel up to 15 days before the conference date and receive a full refund.

• Cancellations made within 14 days of the conference date: The full tuition amount will be applied towards a future MCE conference.

This conference is designed to provide primary care practitioners with up-to-date, evidence-based information on commonly encountered Pharmacology and Pain Management issues, while suggesting pragmatic approaches to clinical management. The discussion-based format of the conference will encourage audience participation through dynamic lectures, case-based studies, and hands-on workshops. Keynote speakers will present and critically assess recent advancements and industry updates in Pharmacology and Pain Management for Primary Care, with the goal of enhancing the knowledge base and core competence of attendees. Objectives: 1) Recognize the neurobiological changes of chronic pain as a chronic disease 2) Understand chronic pain in the context of the bio-psychological model 3) Review current understanding of central nervous system changes seen with chronic pain conditions

Physical Exam for Low Back Pain: A Hands-On Approach
Objectives: 1) Discuss how a number of structures in the lumbar spine may serve as pain generators, including: disc, facet joint, myofascial, and ligamentous structures 2) Review basic physical exam techniques used for assessing spine-related pain conditions 3) Differentiate lumbar radiculopathy signs and symptoms from other causes of low back pain including facet mediated, soft tissue, and sacroiliac joint pain

Assessment and Management of Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis
Objectives: 1) Be familiar with recent pathophysiology related to mechanisms of fibromyalgia 2) Understand recent clinical criteria for diagnosing fibromyalgia in a primary care setting 3) Identify a multidisciplinary approach that can be applied to patients with chronic pain 4) Review spectrum of pharmacologic interventions for treating osteoarthritic conditions

Rational Polypharmacy for Chronic Pain Management
Objectives: 1) Apply new pathophysiologic understanding to treating pain 2) Understand mechanisms of action of the various muscle relaxers and anticonvulsants commonly used to treat various chronic pain states 3) Use case examples to better understand titration and adjustment of adjuvant analgesics

Overview of Opioid Pharmacology, Assessment, and Management
Objectives: 1) Highlight pharmacologic differences between various opioid products used for chronic pain management 2) Describe risk factors that may help to predict problematic opioid use, including addiction and misuse 3) Review validated screening tools used to help identify possible aberrant behaviors related to long-term opioid use 4) Understand and utilize Patient Provider Agreements (PPAs) and Prescription Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) as a means of improved monitoring of patient use of opioid products

Behavioral Health and Physical Therapy Interventions for Managing Pain
Objectives: 1) Highlight pharmacologic difference between various opioid products used for chronic pain management 2) Understand factors related to differences in opioid response across patients, including: receptor heterogeneity, polymorphism, and incomplete cross tolerance 3) Identify how to assess and manage common opioid side effect

Room Reservation Guidelines - In order to provide a quality and interactive CME program, MCE Conferences will limit the amount of registrations per conference. Some conferences may have a lower registration limit due to the destination logistics and lodging availability.

MCE Conferences does not accept commercial support for our Continuing Medical Education programs. We rely solely on tuition fees and discounted group rates for lodging, food and beverage, as well as other meeting costs to cover the expenses of holding this conference. It is required that all participants and their families book within the meeting group allotment for MCE Conferences, in order to participate in this program.
