Anxiety Disorders Update
Objectives: 1) Define anxiety and understand when it becomes a disorder 2) Identify psychological treatment approaches that can be provided in 3 minutes in a PCP office 3) Know when and how to use medications – and when not to use them – including particularly SSRI’s and benzodiazepines

Depression in Primary Care
Objectives: 1) How to diagnose depression and when to treat 2) What to choose and what to do if that doesn’t work 3) When to refer to a psychiatrist.

Basics of Bipolar Disorder for Primary Care
Objectives: 1) Diagnosing bipolar disorder and differentiating from common masqueraders, including borderline personality disorder, trauma, and substance abuse 2) How to choose and use mood stabilizers, including FDA-approved atypical antipsychotics

Somatic Symptom Disorders and Substance Use Disorders:  New Language, New Concepts
Objectives: 1) Review new concepts around somatic symptom disorders that deemphasize cause and emphasize effective care, 2) Articulate principles for rehabilitation approaches to pain subtype and other somatic symptom disorders, 3) Describe the effectiveness and importance of medication assisted treatment for substance use disorders, and 4) Review basic approaches to effective office-based interventions for patients with substance use disorders.

Beyond SSRI’s:  Psychiatric Medications Useful to know in Primary Care
Objective: 1) Review old and new antipsychotic medications – use, monitoring, and management, 2) Understand new antidepressants and some older ones that warrant review, 3) Develop an understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in the primary care setting

Challenging Dermatology Diagnoses
Objectives: 1) Distinguish among different rashes 2) Develop pattern recognition skills 3) Compare similar patterns found in different diagnosis.

Hidradenitis and Follicular Disorders
Objectives: 1) Identify the presenting characteristics and diagnostic findings associated with hidradenitis. 2) Develop an initial plan of care for the management of hidradenitis. 3) Compare and contrast diagnostic findings of folliculitis, pseudofolliculitis, and keratosis pilaris

Objectives: 1) Understand the etiology of acne vulgaris 2) Utilize appropriate criteria to diagnose acne as mild, moderate, or severe 3) Formulate treatment plans for acne, and modify therapies as necessary, to minimize adverse side and maximize benefit

Skin Cancer Updates
Objectives: 1) Distinguish the most common types of skin cancers from other skin lesions 2) Compare biopsy techniques used in diagnostic evaluation of skin cancer 3) Identify methods for treating skin cancers 4) Discuss the value of dermoscopy for diagnosing skin cancer

Topical and Injectable Steroids

Objectives: 1) Recognize classic manifestations of psoriasis 2) Recognize atypical forms of psoriasis 3) Implement appropriate interventions for psoriasis based upon disease severity

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is the accrediting body for family medicine continuing medical education (CME) in the United States of America. CFPC members who complete any live CME/CPD program accredited by the AAFP for Prescribed credit can claim the equivalent number of Mainpro-M1 credits. Canadian Healthcare professionals in other specialties need to verify with their licensing board the reciprocal credit agreement with the AAFP.

American Osteopathic Association – AOA

CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.

American Academy of Physician Assistants – AAPA

AAPA accepts Category 1 CME approval from the AAFP.

American Association of Nurse Practitioners – AANP

AAFP Prescribed Credits are accepted by the AANP.

American Nurses Credentialing Center – ANCC

According to the ANCC, the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP meet the ANCC-accredited CNE criteria.

Pharmacology Credits

Additional Lodging Information:

  • Resort Fee – There will be a daily reduced Resort Charge for attendees booked within the MCE Conferences of $18.00 per room, per night (plus tax) (Usually $35). This covers wireless high-speed internet access in guest rooms, local telephone calls, toll-free telephone access, discounted golf fees and preferred tee times, pool towel service, Resort shuttle services (Kapalua Resort only), non-alcoholic welcome refreshments and shell lei upon arrival, bocce ball, basketball, Tennis Garden, cultural history tours, arts and crafts, resort charging privileges at select shops and restaurants, and in-room coffee.
  • Taxes & Fees – Currently, the applicable state and local taxes 14.4166%. Subject to change without notice.
  • Check-In & Check-Out – The Hotel’s check-in time is after 4:00 PM, and check-out time is 12:00 PM.

Parking – Valet Parking will be reduced for attendees booked within the MCE Conferences room block to $20 USD per vehicle, per night (Usually $30). For local and offsite clients a daily Valet Parking rate of $15 USD per vehicle, for up to the 5 hours will be charged to accommodate the conference hours.

Lodging Deposit  – Individuals are required to guarantee their reservation with a valid credit card and a two (2) nights room and tax advance deposit to secure their room. Individual room cancellations must be received 21 days prior to arrival to avoid penalty of all nights reserved. 

Lodging Cancellations – Terms and conditions as per MCE’s room allotment agreement with conference lodging venue:

  • Cancellation made 31 days or more prior to arrival: A full refund will be issued.
  • Cancellation 30 days or less prior to arrival: No refunds will be issued.
  • No-shows and early departures are considered a cancellation: No refunds will be issued.

All lodging cancellations must be made directly with the lodging venue. Please refer to your lodging confirmation for contact information and policies.

Register & Book Your Lodging Early! The MCE reduced room rates will be available to registered attendees up until November 3, 2020 (based on availability). Our allotment for reduced room rates may sell out before this date. We urge you to secure your lodging reservation as early as possible. Reduced rates will also be offered 3 nights pre and post program dates (based on availability).

Room Reservation Guidelines – The lodging reservation link has been created for the MCE Conference continuing medical education program, and only guests that are registered for this CME conference are eligible to use this site in order to access discounted rooms and/or theme park tickets (if applicable).
