Depression in Primary Care
Objectives: 1) How to diagnose depression and when to treat 2) What to choose and what to do if that doesn’t work 3) When to refer to a psychiatrist

Atrial Fibrillation and the New Anticoagulants
Objectives: 1) To review the indications for Anticoagulation for patients with atrial fibrillation 2) To understand the use of the new novel anticoagulants and their bleeding risk 3) To outline a rational approach to the treatment of atrial fibrillation

Resistant Hypertension
Objectives: 1) To review the definition of resistant hypertension 2) To outline the common causes of secondary hypertension 3) To suggest a reasonable evaluation of patients with resistant hypertension

Objectives: Review PCSK9 therapy as a new medication for hyperlipidemia, understand the role of risk in determining hyperlipidemia therapy, outline management algorithms determining when to use combination therapy for hyperlipidemia

An Approach to the Treatment of Essential Hypertension
Objectives: 1) To understand the underlying pathophysiology or essential hypertension 2) To outline a reasonable treatment approach to essential hypertension based on pathophysiologic principles 3) To appreciate the role of the renin-angiotensin and aldosterone system in control of blood pressure

Basics of Bipolar Disorder for Primary Care
Objectives: 1) Diagnosing bipolar disorder and differentiating from common masqueraders, including borderline personality disorder, trauma, and substance abuse 2) How to choose and use mood stabilizers, including FDA-approved atypical antipsychotics

Dealing with Difficult Patient Personalities
Objectives: 1) Understand what borderline personality disorder (BPD) is and how it is diagnosed 2) Identify two specific skills that a primary care provider can use in working with borderline patients 3) Review how BPD impacts medical illnesses and what can be done to help improve outcomes

Somatic Symptom Disorders: New Language, New Concepts
Objectives: 1) Review new concepts around somatic symptom disorders that deemphasize cause and emphasize effective care, 2) Articulate principles for rehabilitation approaches to pain subtype and other somatic symptom disorders, 3) Understand when and how to use medications (and when not to) in treating somatic symptom disorders

Beyond SSRI’s: Psychiatric Medications Useful to know in Primary Care
1) Review old and new antipsychotic medications – use, monitoring, and management, 2) Understand new antidepressants and some older ones that warrant review, 3) Develop an understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in the primary care setting

An Approach to the Management of Heart Failure
Objectives: 1) To review guideline directed medical therapy for patients with heart failure 2) To outline a practical approach to the optimal use of RAS blockers and beta blockers in heart failure 3) To understand the role of BNP as a guide to optimal heart failure therapy

Secondary Prevention of Coronary Artery Disease
Objectives: 1) To understand the recommended therapies shown to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with clinical coronary heart disease 2) To review the role of antiplatelet medications in patients with coronary heart disease 3) To propose a treatment management plan for patients with coronary heart disease to maximize risk reduction

AMA/AAFP Equivalency – American Academy of Family Physicians

This live activity is being reviewed and will be acceptable for up to 12 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to the AMA PRA category 1 credit toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is the accrediting body for family medicine continuing medical education (CME) in the United States of America. CFPC members who complete any live CME/CPD program accredited by the AAFP for Prescribed credit can claim the equivalent number of Mainpro-M1 credits. Canadian Healthcare professionals in other specialties need to verify with their licensing board the reciprocal credit agreement with the AAFP.

 

American Osteopathic Association – AOA

CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.

American Academy of Physician Assistants – AAPA

AAPA accepts Category 1 CME approval from the AAFP.

American Association of Nurse Practitioners – AANP

AAFP Prescribed Credits are accepted by the AANP.

American Nurses Credentialing Center – ANCC

According to the ANCC, the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP meet the ANCC-accredited CNE criteria.

Pharmacology Credits
