Overview
This conference is designed to provide primary care practitioners with up-to-date, evidence-based information on commonly encountered issues in Dermatology and Family Medicine, while suggesting pragmatic approaches to clinical management. The discussion-based format of the conference will encourage audience participation through dynamic lectures, case-based studies, and hands-on workshops. Keynote speakers will present and critically assess recent advancements and industry updates in Dermatology and Family Medicine, with the goal of enhancing the knowledge-base and core competence of attendees. The successful completion of this interactive program diagnosing, treating, and prescribing the most effective courses of treatment, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.

Objectives: 1) Develop a diagnostic strategy to ascertain the etiology of anemia 2) Utilize the guidelines for diagnosing anemia in children and adults in terms of available testing 3) Develop a clinical approach to treating various anemias to include iron deficiency and “anemia of chronic disease”, due to: infections, inflammatory diseases, chronic kidney disease (CKD), malignancies, cytokines, interferons, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), et cetera 4) Describe the role of consultants in the evaluation and management of anemia

Terminology of Skin Disorders [30 min]
Objectives: 1) Recognize the terms used to describe common skin lesions 2) Demonstrate the ability to communicate skin findings using appropriate terminology 3) Learn how to use terminology to assist in your practice

Rosacea [30 min]
Objectives: 1) Recognize different types of rosacea 2) Distinguish rosacea from other causes of red rashes on the face 3) Formulate treatment plans for rosacea

Overview of Wound Management [30 min]

Nail Disorders [40 min]
Objectives: 1) Recognize normal nail anatomy 2) Evaluate the chief complaint of abnormal appearing nails 3) Utilize medical and physical modalities in the management of nail disorders, as feasible

Drug Eruptions and Other Allergic Skin Conditions [40 min]
Objectives: 1) Recognize different types of drug eruptions 2) Describe treatments for acute and chronic urticaria 3) Distinguish between erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis

Routine Adult Care
Objectives: 1) Determine which screening tests are indicated for particular patients, according to USPSTF guidelines 2) Order appropriate immunizations for adult patients

Recognition and Treatment of Depression
Objectives: 1) Explain the incidence and prevalence of anxiety and depression 2) Evaluate patients with signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression in order to make an accurate diagnosis 3) Prescribe appropriate medications to treat these disorders

Objectives: 1) State the epidemiology of obesity in America and the health risks associated with obesity 2) Assess patients who are obese and determine if they need treatment 3) Recommend and utilize the ACC/AHA/TOS Guidelines for the Management of Overweight and Obese Adults, including diet, exercise, medications, and bariatric surgery 4) Employ the Endocrinology Society Guidelines on Pharmacological Management of Obesity

Thyroid Disease
Objectives: 1) Formulate a plan for the evaluation of a patient with presumed thyroid disease 2) Interpret common lab and imaging tests in the evaluation of a patient with thyroid disease 3) Select appropriate treatment modalities, both medical and surgical, for patients with thyroid disease, according to the American Thyroid Association Guidelines

Skin Cancer Exams, Treatments, and Prevention in this New Era
Objectives: 1) Perform a screening skin examination to detect precancerous and cancerous skin lesions 2) Make recommendations to reduce the likelihood of additional precancerous and cancerous skin lesions 3) Choose at least two appropriate treatments for precancerous skin lesions 4) Understand the benefits and limits of teledermatology

When and How to Cut, Freeze, Burn and Repair
Objectives: 1) Identify indications for skin biopsies and excisions 2) Identify appropriate surgical techniques for skin biopsies and basic repairs 3) Indicate lesions appropriate for cryosurgical and electrosurgical treatment
