Objectives: 1) Be familiar with recent pathophysiology related to mechanisms of fibromyalgia 2) Understand recent clinical criteria for diagnosing fibromyalgia in a primary care setting 3) Identify a multidisciplinary approach that can be applied to patients with chronic widespread pain

Assessment of Low Back Pain
Objectives: 1) Discuss how a number of structures in the lumbar spine may serve as pain generators, including: the disc, facet joint, myofascial and ligamentous structures 2) Review basic physical exam techniques used for assessing spine-related pain conditions 3) Differentiate lumbar radiculopathy signs and symptoms from other causes of low back pain including facet mediated, soft tissue, and sacroiliac joint pain

Overview of Opioid Pharmacology, Assessment, and Management
Objectives: 1) Highlight pharmacologic differences between various opioids used for chronic pain management 2) Describe risk factors that may help to predict problematic opioid use, including addiction and misuse 3) Review validated screening tools used to help identify possible aberrant behaviors related to long-term opioid use 4) Understand and utilize Patient Provider Agreements (PPAs) and Prescription Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) as a means of improved monitoring of patient use of opioid products

Rational Polypharmacy for Chronic Pain Management
Objectives: 1) Apply new pathophysiologic understanding to treating pain 2) Understand mechanisms of action of the various muscle relaxers and anticonvulsants commonly used to treat various chronic pain states 3) Use case examples to better understand titration and adjustment of adjuvant analgesics

Approaching Difficult Conversations about Chronic Pain
Objectives: 1) Address a patient who is resistant to change 2) Describe a strategy for treating patients with anxiety around pain therapy 3) Characterize patients with clear addiction 4) Manage patients who are angry or upset in the office 5) Approach patients who have lost self-control

The Evaluation and Care of Common Knee Problems

Overuse Injuries in the Young Athlete
Objectives: 1) Describe the unique musculoskeletal overuse injuries found in the young patient population 2) Assess overuse injuries with a focused history and physical exam 3) Decide appropriate management and when pediatric athletes can safely return to play 4) Recommend physical activity guidelines for children and adolescents

Challenges in the Diagnosis of Upper Extremity Radicular Pain and Tingling
Objectives: 1) Describe the basic anatomy of the cervical spine and brachial plexus 2) Assess upper extremity pain and tingling with a systematic history and physical exam 3)Select physical examination and imaging tests to assist in establishing possible diagnoses, including thoracic outlet syndrome and cervical radiculopathy 4) Identify indications on when to refer these upper extremity symptoms for subspecialty care

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is the accrediting body for family medicine continuing medical education (CME) in the United States of America. CFPC members who complete any live CME/CPD program accredited by the AAFP for Prescribed credit can claim the equivalent number of Mainpro-M1 credits. Canadian Healthcare professionals in other specialties need to verify with their licensing board the reciprocal credit agreement with the AAFP.

American Osteopathic Association – AOA

CME activities approved for AAFP credit are recognized by the AOA as equivalent to AOA Category 2 credit.

American Academy of Physician Assistants – AAPA

Resort Fee – MCE attendees booked within the group block will receive a discounted Resort Fee of $10 per room per night (Currently $33), plus applicable state and local taxes. Additional Lodging Information:

  • Taxes & Fees – Currently, the sales tax rate is 6.35% and the hotel occupancy tax rate is 6.325%. Taxes and fees are subject to change without notice.
  • Additional Adult Fees – Quoted room rate is based on single/double occupancy. There will be an extra person charge of $20.00 per person/per day for triple/quad occupancy. Children 18 years and under are free when staying in the same room as their parents.
  • Check-In & Check-Out – Currently, the Hotel’s check-in time is 4:00PM, and check-out time is 11:00AM. Subject to change  without notice.

Parking – Complimentary parking included with the discounted Resort Fee. Complimentary parking will also be provided for all attendees driving locally or from offsite to the conference on 11/5-11/8.

Lodging Deposit  -To confirm a sleeping room within the Room Block, the sleeping room must be secured with a valid credit card along with a first night’s deposit which is refundable up to 7- days in advance of arrival.

Lodging Cancellations – Terms and conditions as per MCE’s room allotment agreement with conference lodging venue:

  • Cancellation made 31 days or more prior to arrival: A full refund will be issued.
  • Cancellation 30 days or less prior to arrival: No refunds will be issued.
  • No-shows and early departures are considered a cancellation: No refunds will be issued.
